Jost-H. Hecker was born in Munich in 1959.
He studied Violoncello at the Richard-Strauss-Conservatory and the Musikhochschule in Munich with Fritz Kiskalt
and Jan Polasek.
In 1983, he was one of the co-founders of the« Modern
String Quartet» (long-time partners of Ensemble Sarband),
with which he has since been performing worldwide
and recording CDs.
Working in this ensemble he developed his unique language of sound, which captivates his audiences with its exuberant
vitality and fulminant improvisation.

Another core theme in Hecker's work is theater music. With numerous engagements at the Münchner Kammerspiele and the
Münchner Residenztheater in productions by Franz Wittenbrink, Armin Petras, Johan Simons and many other stage directors,
he is an artist much in demand also in this field.
Hecker's compositions and arrangements are published by Schott & Söhne and Varner&Varner.
Since 2004, he performs with Ensemble Sarband.
